Our walking group really enjoyed Sprotbrough Flash Nature Reserve. This photo illustrates the close proximity of the reserve with the Don and the fact that the Don is prominent in the experience of the Reserve. This is very different to Blackburn Meadows Nature Reserve where it is very difficult to engage with the Don. At Sprotbrough the Don seems healthy with beautiful plant life (reeds) in the water. It was difficult to establish the direction of flow of the river but the reeds provided a good clue. The industrial heritage of the Don is very obvious with the loch and the fantastic coaching in, The Boat. A really positive experience and one in which the Don seems very healthy past and present

We saw lots of native plants at Blackburn Meadows Nature Reserve. The nature reserve is a nice space that is quiet and discrete so ideal for a mental health support walking group. I was a bit disappointed that the paths are so prescriptive and offered no opportunity to observe nature by the Don or the Canal. It felt too contained.
